How did volunteering with Bhumi happen?

I was looking for volunteering opportunities during my final year of college. I attended the 2nd Orientation for the Kolkata Chapter in November 2013, later joined as a LEM Volunteer at CSP Hazra. Thus, began my journey as a Bhumian.

Share your experience in the event that you have been actively participating in:

I have been coordinating for Daan Utsav, Catalyse Campaigns from 2014 onwards.

What change did these experiences bring in your life? How has Bhumi altered you, personally?

I have been a happy-go-lucky person since school days. Bhumi changed my outlook towards my life. It gave me the much needed reality check and the ability to respect and appreciate what life has given me.

Tell us about one Bhumian, who has been an inspiration:

Rashmi Sinha, who started Bhumi Kolkata Chapter has been a constant motivation for me to continue as a Volunteer. Her high spirits and the will to do something good for the society, especially children made me conscious about how we, as the young generation contribute to the development of the nation.

Any specific, special moment with kids or volunteers you would like to share with us?

My most special moment was with a child in a home where we our LEM project was happening. As a new volunteer, I was extremely happy to be around those children. But there was one kid who never lightened up, no matter what. My volunteer friends and I planned a little surprise for her on her birthday. The child was overwhelmed and burst out. It was an emotional moment for all of us. All her inhibitions faded away and she turned into a new leaf.

A message to every volunteer at Bhumi:

Take it easy, be positive and you will get what are you looking for!
