Whenever Bhumi launches Nakshatra for the year, he comes from nowhere and makes his presence felt with a very big yet silent bang. He has been single-handedly raising funds for Nakshatra, consistently since 2011 and has ensured that the contribution doubles every year.

We would not be exaggerating if Bhumi called him our technical advisor for he is the man we approach for anything new, innovative and novel. From restructuring Kanini’s syllabus to developing an application for Nakshatra, he has been supportive and participative in many behind the scene operations.

From coining the term to setting up the team and structure, he has been instrumental in introducing the Key Process Indicators (KPI), a professional approach, to manage the Kanini programme. His work was least affected when he moved to the UK for higher education. In constant touch with the team, he ensured proper functioning even in his absence. At Nakshatra 2013, his work as the Venue Management Coordinator was par excellence.

Torchbearer of the Year
When the Kanini programme suddenly needed leadership, she dived in to fill the gap with no qualms. As the facilitator of the programme, she has been meticulously managing five city chapters with incredible energy and attitude. With her effervescent smile and positive spirit, she ensures the best of her team is brought out. She creates a favourable environment for her team to work in and ensures they are recognised for their efforts. Her presence has also been felt to a great extent with conducting Bhumi’s orientation sessions. As the liaison coordinator at Nakshatra 2013, she worked immensely to ensure new and more homes participated for both Sports and Cultural days. She is reliable, self-driven, passionate and certain to make it bigger in the future.

Changemaker of the Year
As the HR Coordinator of the Speak Out programme, he has been leading by example. In addition to participating at Bhumi’s orientation sessions regularly, he was instrumental in introducing the qualifying level for the programme. Even though the responsibilities were to be shared, he almost single-handedly managed over ten of the qualifying levels and three curriculum training sessions for volunteers. His dedication and sincerity to make sure every session happen without hitches are much appreciated. He has been such a great inspiration to his volunteers that they had nominated him as their centre’s Best Volunteer at the programme’s annual meeting. He also played a crucial role in documenting data about the volunteers. His inputs were always sought after and most of them provided a new approach to our thinking. His contribution to Play(w)right, the year-end workshop for children from Speak Out was also commendable.

She was both the Centre and Overall Coordinator for the curriculum team in Speak Out. She took her role at her center very seriously and kept up to it wonderfully. Week after week, she tracked volunteer attendance and class progress with dedication. When her counterpart from the other day was not available for a short period of time, she volunteered to teach on both days. Her documentation of the classes was unparalleled and a model that should be regularly followed. It was her sheer determination and initiative that she learnt phonics from the internet and prepared for classes all by herself. Her efforts had such a visible impact on the kids. Even though she had constraints to work, she found ways in which she could help Bhumi with Nakshatra and other Speak Out events.
We the members of Bhumi confer upon Sajida Zaithoon the Changemaker of the Year awardfor her outstanding contribution to Speak Out. You are undoubtedly one of our model volunteers, and we admire your sincerity, dedication and hard work.
As the Operations Coordinator for Speak Out, apart from being an active teaching volunteer, he had to ensure smooth running of the classes at all the centers; and for this, a team of batch and centre coordinators had to be carefully selected. He took the efforts and personal interest to prepare a task list and role-plays for the both the positions and rolled them out on his own with little help. Over 90% of his chosen candidates went on to prove him right and this bears testimony to his meticulous dedication. He was also behind the novel innovation of the new credit system to track volunteer attendance and has also coordinated the project for a few weeks. He played a crucial role in organising Play(w)right, the year-end workshop for children from Speak Out.

With an ever smiling and cool attitude, she was the go-to girl when Lakshya needed a dedicated HR team. She readily accepted the responsibility and since then has been in constant interaction with the volunteers. From organising inductions to volunteer outings, she has delivered her responsibilities diligently. Her idea to start a newsletter for Lakshya has been a huge success, and if not for her continuous follow up, ‘Ripples’ would not have been a regular feature. She has also been a regular mentor the last two years and has developed a good rapport with all the children and co-volunteers. Her contribution as a member of the Science Exhibition team at Nakshatra 2013 was remarkable.

He has constantly encouraged and inspired fellow volunteers to take up responsibilities. He is one of the pillars of strength of Lakshya’s HR team. He also volunteered to drive the Design for Change initiative within Lakshya and successfully coordinated the implementation at two centres. He also helped the children present these ideas to the Commissioner of Police, Chennai. With the same enthusiasm and vigour, he introduced Doodle for Google competition to the children of Lakshya across all chapters, which had an incredible response from the children. His work as one of the Overall Events Coordinator and an On-stage Coordinator of Announcements at Nakshatra 2013 was commendable.

Her bubbly nature has influenced and encouraged many to attend sessions regularly and participate in Lakshya activities. Ever since she joined, she took up tutoring as a key vertical within the programme. She stretched beyond the conventional weekend sessions to support children during weekdays for their board exams. Her approach and suggestions have been vital for improving the structure of tutoring. Inputs given by her in extending mentoring to Speak Out volunteers were significant. Her contribution towards Lakshya’s growth plans has been immense. In addition to Lakshya, she has also been actively teaching English at one of Give Life’s centre in Chennai. She coordinated the events with high energy and enthusiasm as the Overall Events Coordinator at Nakshatra 2013.

An important member of the syllabus team, he has helped in improving the curriculum as per the needs of every centre, and optimising the training as per the needs of every city chapter. He is a passionate teacher not just in the eyes of the children but also the volunteers. His energy and enthusiasm have been inspirational to many. Methodical and systems oriented, he is in the process of integrating online, interactive software to the existing curriculum to enable teaching Mathematics through Computers.

As a very active member, within a short span of time she has been responsible for stabilising the Science team’s operations. She constantly encouraged her fellow volunteers to add their inputs and participate in developing the curriculum. An excellent teacher, her skills are extraordinary and have made children with low interest to look forward to her classes. She has also taken the initiative to organise and successfully execute events for the children.

As the HR Coordinator of the Little Einsteins programme, he instills confidence in all the volunteers he interacts with. He helped with organising the programme’s annual meet, in spite of several hurdles; and also played a crucial role in preparing and conducting the Math Carnival at two centres. Communicating effectively is one of his assets and ensures the meticulous completion of tasks assigned.

The technocrat of the Kanini team, he revamped the tech team and ensured proper functioning. Exceptional contribution by all means to resolve technical issues faced at any centre. Along with his team, he organised the finale of Kanini’s annual Computer Quest event, without any glitches. His support to the Liaison team in getting the participation list from homes that were far away; his tireless and meticulous contribution to the Food team; and his sincere efforts and support to developing an application for Nakshatra are commendable.

As a very diligent volunteer, he not only attended most of his classes, he also substituted at other centres whenever required. In addition to being a centre coordinator, he took up the responsibility of the HR coordinator without any hesitation and balanced work at critical times. Through his proactive approach, he would go the extra mile to complete his work, and little follow up was required if and when entrusted with responsibilities. As the venue management coordinator of the finale of Kanini’s annual Computer Quest event, his meticulous planning and implementation helped in conducting the event with no glitches. At Nakshatra, as the Volunteer Management Coordinator, he was effective and efficient in tracking, deploying and managing people.

As a zonal coordinator for two consecutive years, he has been hardworking, dependable and completes work with little follow up. For almost a year, he was the only volunteer at a centre far away from Chennai and with full attendance. He travelled more than hundred kilometers to conduct Nakshatra Reach Out events and also assisted the Liaison team with collecting participants’ lists from the homes. His contribution as the Team Sports coordinator at Nakshatra, right from planning to execution, deserves special appreciation.

His contribution to Kanini’s Tech Team includes configuring the ticketing system (K-ticket), cloud based document management system (K-DMS), the creation and mapping of automated Key Process Indicator (KPI) graphs, and much more. His efforts to resolve technical issues at centres need appreciation. Self-driven in nature, he volunteered to take up additional responsibilities in the KPI team. At Nakshatra, with absolute control over his work, he emerged as one of the finest inventory coordinators that the event has even seen.

Dedicated with good time management skills, he was excellent in striking the right balance between his professional and Bhumi work. He was instrumental in developing the curriculum on Excel for the Kanini programme which was highly appreciated by all. His infectious energy keeps up the spirit of those around him. His work to stabilise the Sports module of the Nakshatra Reach Out programme has been of great value. When Nakshatra Reach Out was just commencing in full swing, he pitched in to manage HR operations. He has been closely associated with initiating Bhumi’s chapter in New Delhi, and since then, has been contributing to different facets of the organisation. From conducting volunteer recruitment drives, identifying centres, organising volunteer trainings, he has been almost everywhere. A simple yet energetic volunteer he has big ideas and takes immense interest in organising events for the children – including field trips and celebrations. He also played a crucial role in organising the first edition of Nakshatra in the city.

Bhumi EARTH of the Year Award
His openness, friendliness and commitment have encouraged many others to take up responsibilities in Lakshya. His efforts in organising workshops, coordinating Joy to the World at a remote centre and picking up children for Nakshatra from a far off centre reflect his commitment and reliability. His support in implementing the Design for Change project on planting saplings at one of our centre deserves a special mention.

Not often do we see volunteers taking up Centre Coordination on the first day of volunteering and continuing to become one of the most appreciated Coordinators by the centre management. His sessions were meticulously planned, and during a challenging phase, he took up the additional responsibility of planning and coordinating group activities and managing resources. He has also been encouraging and supporting his volunteers at all times. As the Security Coordinator of Nakshatra, he was on his toes and managed to keep complete control of the children and the venue.

This geeky volunteer has been one of the friendliest mentors to the children. His unique style of mentoring has attracted many children to look forward to every session of Lakshya. He has attended almost all the sessions and his mentoring documentation is certainly a model document for others to follow. His effort in single-handedly creating a repository of short films for Lakshya deserves special mention.

He is one of the very few dependable volunteers who have attended more than 90% of the classes for three consecutive years. The significant improvement in the children last year bears testimony to his outstanding teaching skills. His contribution to the Transport Team of Nakshatra needs a special mention.

He started volunteering as a coordinator of one batch, but went on to take up the additional responsibility of coordinating the other batch too. He analysed why some children were not present during weekends and came up with the solution of weekday classes. He encouraged his centre volunteers to go the extra mile by coming for classes on weekdays too, for the timely completion of the curriculum. His efforts to train the children before Computer Quest, Kanini’s annual event, deserve a special mention.

Buzzing with energy, he is always s energetic to attend classes, irrespective of location or frequency. A pillar of support for his zone, just a message would be enough for him to substitute at any centre. As the Coordinator of team activithies during the finale of Kanini’s annual Computer Quest event, he delivered his best to manage the children. He is proactive, and every task assigned to him will be completed after meticulous analysis.

Sincere and hardworking, he travels over 80kms every week to teach and has hardly missed a class. His contribution for Nakshatra’s Science Exhibition preparatory work and transporting the children to the venue were exceptional.

His contribution for the Security and Liaison Teams at Nakshatra were remarkable and deserve a special mention too.

He is one of the most consistent volunteers and has been present on both Saturdays and Sundays since the time he joined Bhumi. He is often the first to raise his hands whenever help is needed. He was present and played an integral role in the Math Carnival conducted at all centres last year. He was also present for all meetings and preparatory work for any event within Little Einsteins. Despite staying 30kms away from the city, he never missed an opportunity to contribute to the programme.

As one of the Centre Coordinators of Speak Out, she has been a constant source of inspiration to her volunteers and has driven them to rise to their full potential. She performed the role to the best of her abilities and was one of the best Centre Coordinators. She even ensured her children got an opportunity to undertake a field trip to visit a heritage centre in Chennai.

As one of the Batch Coordinators of Speak Out, he led by example. He was ever-ready to substitute even in the other batch, and holds maximum credits for a volunteer in Speak Out. Regular class confirmation, coordination among the batch, and volunteer attendance were all done with due diligence. He encouraged other volunteers to substitute within and outside his centre. Many a time, he has lessened the work of his coordinators and has handled his tasks to perfection.

As a member of Speak Out’s HR team, she is one of the most enthusiastic and cheerful volunteers. She brings a smile to everyone’s face with her enthusiasm and drive to get tasks done. She is the first to volunteer at most events and contributed at most of Bhumi’s recruitment sessions. She handled birthday wishes for Speak Out volunteers with dedication. She also helped create a wonderful bond with the center authorities by making sure she attended all the functions that the volunteers were invited for. She was willing to substitute at any centre, irrespective of how much she had to travel.

He is a regular and reliable volunteer who completes every task assigned to him. He single-handedly managed his centre for almost a year.
