Children’s Day Out!

Children’s Day Out!

“It’s not a museum. It’s not a place of artifacts; it’s a place of ideas”

Museums are caretakers of history that often provide memorable experiences. A museum visit is immersive and has the power to provoke a child’s imagination, introducing her to unknown worlds and subjects.

Bhumi’s school transformation program recognises these benefits of introducing young minds to multisensorial learning environments, and a visit to the Government Museum along with volunteers from Aspire Systems Inc got children of General Cariappa Hr.Sec.School, Chennai excited and energised.

The Government Museum, Chennai, the second oldest museum in India, is particularly rich in archaeological and numismatic collections. While the children explored every nook and corner, took keen interest to examine the exhibits and took ownership of their own learning, the volunteers were committed to answering their questions (and we know how hard that can be!), encouraging them to know more and be critical thinkers.

Velu, one of the volunteers from Aspire Systems recounted his experience saying all the children were playful but equally curious. Especially when we entered the armaments section, they were excited to see the swords, guns & canons of varying sizes & styles from different parts of India. They were asking a lot of questions inside the zoological section about the bones of whales, elephants and explored every creature in detail. Post lunch, after exploring all seven galleries we went to the scientific park where we enjoyed playing on swings  & see-saw with the children. This was a lot of fun. In all, it was a great day with the children and a totally amazing experience! Thank you, Bhumi for organising this trip.”

Ram Prakash, another volunteer when asked about his experiences exclaimed  “I am now waiting for the next field trip with Bhumi children!”

We wholeheartedly thank the volunteers of Aspire Systems for making this visit memorable and enriching!
