Impact Report: Right to Education Campaign, TN- 2020-21

Impact Report: Right to Education Campaign, TN- 2020-21

Providing learning opportunities for all children, in an inclusive environment, is a collective responsibility of all. This has been articulated in the RTE Act, 2009 through the landmark provision 12 (1) (c), for admission of children from disadvantaged and economically weaker sections in private unaided schools.

An estimated 1 lakh such free seats are available each year in Tamil Nadu, yet 50% of them are not utilized as there is little awareness among underprivileged communities. Bhumi’s RTE Team with the help of dedicated volunteers has been actively involved in resolving the challenges of awareness and accessibility for low-income families in Tamil Nadu. This year in spite of the pandemic situation, we have successfully been able to enroll 2709 children through RTE in Tamil Nadu.

Bhumi has contributed by creating awareness, referral, and application support through,

  • Awareness campaigns – 800 volunteers, 40 partner NGO & Corporate collaborations and Social influencers created awareness through field campaigns and social media platforms.
  • Helpline Volunteers – Educated and guided the parents who reached out to us through our helpline about the entire RTE act and the application process.

We also take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all the volunteers, NGO’s,  corporates, celebrities and social influencers who helped us echo our voices far & wide.

Project Impact 2020-21:

No.of Parents reaching Bhumi Helpline – 30,961
No. of Parents supported in the application process – 4751
No of admissions through Bhumi- 2709
Total No.of Seats Available- 2019-20: 124,113 | 2020-21: 115673

The total number of seats available this year was 115,673. This is an indication that while 2020-21 saw almost three times more enrollments from Bhumi’s efforts compared to 2019, we still have a long way to go.

Access to quality education and equal opportunities can level the playing field for children from lower-income backgrounds. Free and high-quality education can open up better opportunities for their future and help them break the shackles of poverty. With a vision to provide equal opportunities, we are set on our path again this year. We call upon you to join us in our efforts, to volunteer register on www.
