Super-duper Children’s Day with the Superstar Endhiran!

Super-duper Children’s Day with the Superstar Endhiran!

We all have very fond memories of celebrating children’s day, the day when the spotlight was on us and when everyone gave us importance even though we were little. On 14 November 2010, Bhumi gave an experience of a life-time to 270 kids…A children’s day memory that they would cherish forever. Bhumi volunteers and children from PV Rao School, ICCW, and Avvai home gathered at Sangam Cinemas at Kilpauk early on Sunday for a special screening of Rajinikanth’s blockbuster movie “Endhiran”.

They were joined by some lucky winners of a contest that was held on the Bhumi’s Facebook page. Apart from the fact that many were visiting a theatre for the first time, the prospect of watching the superstar on the big screen brought in enthusiasm that was only fit for a star as popular as Rajinikanth. The children walked in jubilantly amidst a cold drizzle; They could not stop smiling and cheering and this seemed like the perfect moment to capture the event’s start on camera. Without wasting much time, everyone made a bee-line for the cinema theatre.

As biscuits and chocolate muffins from Britannia and Sandy’s Chocolate Factory were being distributed during the first half of the movie, eager eyes and sweet thank you’s were many. It was evident that the children were enjoying the movie from the frequent shouts, whistles, giggles and the claps, especially when Aishwarya Rai came on screen and when Rajnikanth as the robot performed some cool stunts!

The children were treated to more goodies during the intermission – like cookies from Cookie Man and fruit juice from Pepsi-Tropicana. There were more surprises in store as the children soon found out that celebrities such as RJ Dheena from Big FM, VJ Gibraan and others came to celebrate the wonderful day with the children.

Once the movie resumed, the speechless children watched the story unfold on the silver screen. There was a thunderous applause at the end of the movie. To the delight of the children, the day was not over yet. On their way out, they each received a bright and colourful goody bag with goodies from Britannia and Reynolds! The volunteers were relieved and content that their hard work paid off and that the day was a phenomenal success. This event was the first of its kind for Bhumi, but with the promise of many more to follow!

When we saw these children’s laughter resonate the air with happiness for the simplest of joys, many of us realised that the child in us was lost somewhere 🙂 These children give us more than we ever can. We give them two open hands and they embrace us with their hearts. Happy Children’s Day!

Thank you

The day wouldn’t have been so cherished and enjoyable without the support of:
