12 Oct The Joy of Giving Week 2010
On 27 September, the silent street on which The German Hall is located came to life. Not only because of the 250 odd children from Bala Mandir (T Nagar), Nightingale Educational Social Trust (Thirumullaivoyal) and Pudiyador (Ramavaram), but also because of the beautiful voice of the ace Carnatic singer Ms. Sudha Raghunathan.
She started the concert with a Ganapathi Bhajan and the energy that filled the room when the bhajan ended was stupendous. The next few songs brought together her poised voice and the excited voices of the children. If it were not for the saree Ms. Sudha was wearing, anyone could have mistaken her for a child. Accompanying her were the best violin, tabla and sitar players of Chennai. They said, this was an unusual opportunity and that they would love to play for the children time and again.
What could be a perfect conclusion to such a lovely evening? Yes, Adyar Ananda Bhavan had given each and every child a gift goody pack consisting of savories and sweets. And each child received it from Ms. Sudha herself.
Our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Maya Gaitonde, Bala Mandir for inviting our children to this beautiful concert organised as part of the Joy of Giving Week 2010.
Good music, good food and happy children. Joy was everywhere!
