Project in Bhumi: Little Einsteins – Mathematics

City/State: Trichy / Tamil Nadu

Tell us a little about yourself!

Having filled my life with the serenity of Srivilliputhur till teenage, I moved to Tiruchirapalli, exploring a new life of possibilities – the first being engineering. It was during this time when I found Bhumi and got connected with another family away from home. Currently I am employed at CUB.

How did volunteering with Bhumi happen? (Including beginning, which project you volunteered for)?

During Third year of Engineering, I heard about Bhumi from my friend and attended the orientation. Mathematics was my first volunteering project and it remains the only one too. I volunteered for a year and then moved up as HR lead for the project with one of the best team I could ever ask for.

What change did these experiences bring in your life? How has Bhumi altered you, personally?

Bhumi brought a lot of changes in my life. To be more specific it turned me from a short-tempered guy to a calm person. It made me more idealistic and strong toward the problems I have in life.

One most memorable incident in your life as a Bhumian:

I can give a number of instances. One fine noon, when I was heading home with a senior volunteer, we had an minor accident, escaping with just few scratches. The children saw us and gathered around us with tears in their eyes, each drop reflecting their love for us.

Tell us about one Bhumian, who has been an inspiration

Its too hard to be that picky. Every Bhumian I  have met till date has had an impact on me. To name a few – Viknesh and Abi from Trichy, and Santosh and Raji from Chennai inspired me a lot under various circumstances. They treated me as their own brother, encouraged me and stood along with me during many demanding situations.

Any specific, special moment with kids or volunteers you would like to share with us?

Every moment I spent in volunteering is special for me. They way we (volunteers) celebrated every moment of our work and those effortless moments of comfort when I was with fellow volunteers and children.

A message to every volunteer at Bhumi:

Be happy with what you are doing. Dedicate your entire work towards happiness and well-being of children. You will end up having everything you yearn for. Happy volunteering guys!
