Tell us a little about yourself!
I am a B.com Graduate who took admission in Army Institute of Management to pursue my MBA. I love to visit new places as I am passionate about travelling and meeting new people. I love football and I am also a keyboard player. I love writing short stories and poems. Cooking is a hobby of mine. I believe in “ Be the change if you wish to see in the world ” by Mahatma Gandhi.
How did volunteering with Bhumi happen ?
My association with Bhumi started when I came across this volunteering opportunity from the internet and I’ve always wanted to change the society. I have been volunteering with Bhumi, since then. I started my volunteering journey with Kanini project and then changed to Catalyse project.
What changes did these experiences bring in your life? How has Bhumi altered you, personally?
In my leadership roles in the Bhumi platform, I learned a lot about myself. I developed a passion for being an agent of change. It helped me to be able to gain a firmer understanding of my own strengths and weaknesses and grow personally and professionally. I gained valuable skills in planning events, being the leader of a project and working as a team to effectively manage resident issues. I also gained better communication skills, which is helpful in all aspects of life. I was able to understand and experience the difficulties people face in their lives. I got the satisfaction of helping them take the first step towards a better future.
Tell us about one Bhumian, who has been an inspiration.
Telling about one person would be unfair. After I joined Bhumi, I have seen and learnt many good things from each volunteer or coordinator I have met. Each one of them are good at something, which inspires me. So, it is not one, but every Bhumian, who inspires me. Every volunteer who is committed in bringing about change is my inspiration. And you can find a lot of such committed volunteers at Bhumi. But if I have to pick one, Khagendra is one volunteer whom I look up to. He excellently manages the team and is very active when it comes to any event.
Any specific, special moment with kids or volunteers you would like to share with us?
First, the whole Nakshatra 2018 (the first nakshatra held in Kolkata) experience this year. It was amazing to see the children’s smile and every moment of their happiness (whether it was dancing on the stages or making pot painting or receiving prizes ) was my happiness and brought tears of joy. Second, an art and craft workshop in one of our Bhumi shelter homes was a life changing moment for me. We made cards for each other and taught those children to make origami birds, flowers, etc. Every moment that I volunteered and coordinated is special to me. In Catalyse and Refresh events, it is always special when children smile, and I feel I am one of the volunteers who brought smiles in their faces.
A message to every volunteer at Bhumi:
Bhumi is a platform where you impact not only others but yourself too. Let us all work to turn a child’s dream into reality. Utilise this platform to impact as many as possible.
