Tell us a little about yourself!

I am currently pursuing BSW (Bachelor of Social Work). I chose Social Work because I have always wanted to serve humanity.I believe our profession can change the world in several ways & here I have got ample of opportunities to serve people. I am grateful to BHUMI for giving me the opportunity to be part of a profession that reaches out to our most vulnerable populations and strives to make a difference in so many lives.

How did volunteering with Bhumi happen?

I was new to the city and I wanted to make new friends. So,I registered with BHUMI and then attended it’s orientation program. I am trying to contribute to the society in my own little capacity since then and now it’s been 2 years as a proud Bhumian.

Share your experience in the ‘Ride for a Cause’ event that you have been actively participating in.

It was an amazing experience because we celebrated Ugadi that day. Right from cleaning the venue the previous night for the event, to the final implementation day; I got to meet many villagers, kids and also new volunteers. We prepared a sweet dish named “Payasum” with the help of some village ladies. We had a lot of fun with the kids too. I played the role of a photographer too by which I got to capture some awesome moments. After successful participation of kids, we distributed gifts to them which will surely increase their confidence to participate in future competitions. Overall, it was a fantastic experience!

What change did these experiences bring in your life? How has BHUMI altered you, personally?

BHUMI has enriched my personality in various ways. It has made me a person who has ethos, moral values and who is determined to serve the people to his maximum capacity. I have got a wonderful opportunity to teach unprivileged kids. These kids gave me amazing experiences as well as  huge inspiration to me.

Tell us about one Bhumian, who has been an inspiration

Every person is an inspiration in BHUMI but If I have to mention only one then I would like to mention, a Bhumian Tejaswini from Chandigarh who inspired me a lot through her words. Last year I met her at Jeevan Mukt Nishulak Vidyalaya center where she was handling all the volunteering & coordination activities evenhandedly for more than a year. She is a remarkable volunteer with clear goals and hardworking approach.

Any specific, special moment with kids or volunteers you would like to share with us?

This one was my first event as coordinator, as a part of Carnival. We decided to plant saplings in our center. The experience with fellow Bhumians who are my friends is an unforgettable experience.
