Volunteer Den: Neha Singh

Tell us a little about yourself!
I am a Security Consultant with IBM India (Bengaluru),  I have spent five beautiful years with Bhumi! A volunteer from heart, I love to talk to new people which also makes me a great volunteer.  I am complete foodie & a tea lover who likes to make new friends & believes in “live and let live” concept.

How did volunteering with Bhumi happen?
I heard about Bhumi through friends in 2012 when I was in rural India for another youth workshop. However, I joined Bhumi two years after because  I was busy with my work and shifting to a new city had its own challenges. Rest is history!

Your journey in Bhumi.

My sweet little journey from a  teaching volunteer to being the project coordinator & then the City lead (Educational Program)  is amazing and I have enjoyed all the phases, I am back to teaching volunteer role now as I would like to go back to learning mode.

What change did these experiences bring in your life? How has Bhumi altered you, personally?
Bhumi has really shaped my leadership skills which are useful in my personal and professional life. Professionally  I am a calmer and solution-oriented person now, I invest my time in productive discussions and finishing the task before tight deadlines. Personally I am more content and happy with my life and I feel blessed to be able to help society in my best capacity. Look forward to continuing so.

Share an interesting experience at Bhumi
Every experience with Bhumi is memorable for me, from teaching to attending events, making new friends and learning from my co-volunteers. Children whom I taught in 2015 -16 still remember my name & that itself is an experience to be cherished for a lifetime.  I am having a  hard time picking just one beautiful experience of my 5 years, but when I see children perform at Nakshatra, that moment is priceless!

Your message to the world!
I would say if you haven’t volunteered yet, please take out some time for yourself because here you are not just teaching, you are learning life lessons which you possibly can never experience in your personal and professional life. Volunteering is an emotion which one must explore.
